Biography
When I was in high school, students in advanced English classes had two options for class: Honors English 2, or Honors Journalism. I was thoroughly tired out by all the discussion of classic literature in my first year of English, so I chose journalism; from the first week of that class, I fell in love with the profession. The next year, I was the features editor of our newspaper, and the year after that, I was the online managing editor. I attended conferences, I blew off class to write, and I put all my energy towards becoming a journalist. In 2020, I graduated from DePaul University's journalism program into the most chaotic set of circumstances I could have ever imagined, and I struggled to understand what I wanted to do as a journalist. I tried anything and everything in hopes of understanding where I wanted my career to take me. I realized fairly quickly that the answer was right in front of me; I was a writer at heart, and I always would be, but now I had the tools from all mediums of journalism to tell the full story. Now, I am a multimedia journalist with experience in print, broadcast and radio journalism. As a journalist, I focus on writing stories that give a clear sense of the bigger picture—utilizing root-cause analysis and taking a solutions-based approach, I hope to write stories that are informative and helpful to my audience as well as the community affected by the topic. I am a driven, determined and focused journalist with years of experience, starting as a student reporter, and I am hoping to branch out and expand my knowledge base to continue my commitment to informative, ethical and important journalism.
