Biography
As a reporter, I specialize in feature-length stories that combine the narrative eye of a novelist and the research of a journalist. I believe in immersing myself in my topic whenever possible, whether that means spending weeks helping to perform autopsies or working as a prep cook in a Michelin-starred kitchen. I'm a regular contributor to the Washington Post Magazine and Eater.com, and my fiction, essays, and criticism have appeared in Longreads, Hazlitt, NYLON, Barrelhouse, Catapult, the Times Literary Supplement, and the Brooklyn Rail. I writes the semi-regular "Dispatches from the Swamp" column for The Rumpus, and my travel writing has appeared in Roads and Kingdoms. I received a 2018 Artist Fellowship from the DC Council on the Arts and Humanities, and am an assistant fiction editor at Barrelhouse Magazine. Born and raised in Manhattan, I attended Trinity College Dublin before receiving my B.A. from Columbia University. I hold an M.F.A. from George Mason University. I currently teach creative writing at George Washington University.
