Biography

Sania Farooqui is a senior journalist based out of India, she has previously worked as a special correspondent, news presenter, host, executive producer (news/documentary), field producer for national and international news organizations including CNN International, Al Jazeera, TIME, Inter Press Service (IPS News), Mambo Panda, Guardian, NDTV 24/7, and The Hindu. In 2023, Sania joined CNN International in New Delhi as a field producer covering India and South Asia. Prior to this, Sania also worked as a freelance field producer for Al Jazeera in New Delhi. In 2020, Sania produced over four documentaries for Spain based production house, Mambo Panda. Sania joined the team as their India executive producer covering COVID-19, her documentary titled, “Surging: 24 Hours in New Delhi” which aired on CGTN America won the Silly Telly award. Sania has also produced documentaries for the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (COP26) for CGTN America. In 2020, Sania launched a podcast show called, ‘The Sania Farooqui Show’ in partnership with Inter Press Service (IPS News) where she interviewed women on various topics including, Islamophobia, peace, security, press freedom and human rights. The podcast did a special series on Russia’s war on Ukraine, also partnered with Doria Feminist Fund founded by Egyptian women’s rights campaigner Mozn Hassan. The podcast also collaborated with Women’s International News Gathering Service (WINGS) where the episodes of ‘The Sania Farooqui Show’ were distributed via Pacifica Audioport in the US, Canada’s National Campus and Community Radio Association Program Exchange and Community Radio Network of Australia. 'The Sania Farooqui Show' also organized a four day online event titled, 'Press Freedom Under Fire: Women in Media Speak Out' in November 2021, followed by digital security training for women journalists in India. In her role as a senior journalist for Inter Press Service (IPS News), Sania extensively covered South Asia, Russia’s war in Ukraine, Middle East, Africa, Jordan, Canada, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Turkey, Britain, Yemen, Egypt, France, Somalia, Denmark, Tunisia, and Sri Lanka. Sania has also Interviewed Ambassador Cindy Hensley McCain, Bangladeshi lawyer, Rizwana Hasan, Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and Romy Hawatt among others for IPS News. She has served as a board member for the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT), India Chapter.
