At the time of writing (Monday 14 April), the government has declared a state of emergency. The flooding is due to rain associated with Storm Oliver, which also made landfall in the neighbouring Canary Islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. There are still weather warnings in place for parts of Spain through Tuesday 15 April 2025.
