Biography

Known as a truck and off-road expert due to a career emphasis on the truck and off-road side of the automotive industry, my career as an automotive journalist has taken me from the Bush in Africa to the racecourse on the Baja Peninsula and has afforded me the opportunity to work closely with OEMs on upcoming products years before their public launch dates. I have worked hard to build life-long business relationships and friendships within the industry and I can seamlessly transition between the OE and aftermarket sides of automotive. In January 2023 I went out on my own and formed Use For Adventure Inc., a media, marketing, consulting, and adventure company catering to businesses that need help with content creation, go-to-market strategies, product development, and even bespoke off-highway adventures. My client list includes both OEs and automotive aftermarket companies. I’m also the owner, co-host, and co-creator of the Truck Show Podcast with Lightning & Holman. The Truck Show Podcast is a passion project of mine that was originally launched to engage, in a new way, enthusiasts with Motor Trend Group’s truck content and to study the adoption of new media platforms and revenue streams. The Truck Show Podcast quickly became the #1 general interest truck enthusiast podcast on Apple Podcasts and I took over ownership from Motor Trend Group in January 2023. Lastly, I am a minority partner in OVR magazine (License Plate Media LLC), the hottest vehicular-based adventure and outdoor magazine to launch in recent memory. OVR stands for Outdoor Vehicle Recreation and mixes the lifestyle of wheel-based adventure with traditional automotive enthusiast media.

  • First Drive: 2024 Ford Ranger - A Strong Contender in the Midsize Truck Segment

By Sean Holman Verified| OVRmag Verified Seems like every time we open up our laptop, there is another midsize truck coming to market, better than the one it replaces. The Ranger’s styling looks more akin to the Maverick than it does the F-150, but at least it shares more in common with the US-market family. The once dead category is one of the hottest in the automotive market with companies such as GM, Toyota, and now Ford refreshing their offerings.

  • Bilstein B8 TerraSport Installation: The Ultimate Suspension Upgrade for Subaru Crosstrek and CUV Overlanders

By Mark Han Verified, Sean Holman Verified| OVRmag Verified Overlanding isn’t just the domain of Toyota Tacomas and Jeep Wranglers. In fact, a huge contingent of adventurers has been pushing the limits of more affordable platforms for the better part of a decade now. The biggest knock on these car-based unibody CUVs has been the lack of a true lift solution.

  • Ford Bronco Off-Road Adventures: Exploring Moab, Telluride, and the San Juan Mountains in the Bronco Raptor

By Sean Holman Verified, Jerry Tsai Verified| OVRmag Verified One of the newest entries into the overlanding market is the Ford Bronco, which came on-scene in 2021. So as the aftermarket catches up, we are seeing more and more Broncos hitting the trails in search of adventure. Ford has been instrumental in training this next-generation of explorer by offering the Off-Rodeo program to its customers, helping them to get familiar and helping customers to find their own comfort level with the vehicle as it relates to their confidence off-road.
