Here, in the labyrinthine streets, quirky shops sell everything from brass utensils, grains and spices, traditional jootis, pagdis, kites, firecrackers to jewellery; and the ever-present view of Amer Fort in the distance is a sight to behold. However, it is the many private havelis, a clutch of them now lying abandoned and dilapidated, that capture my attention.
By Seema Misra| joinpaperplanes.com@ I was born and brought up in the temple city of Bhubaneswar. Throughout my childhood, a clutch of magnificent temples hovered beyond my realm of interest. Years later, however, I felt the temples calling out to me. On one of my recent visits back home, I caved in and decided to go temple-hopping. In the city of temples, one is spoilt for choice. After cogitating at length, I zeroed in on the Chausath Yogini Temple in Hirapur, a tiny hamlet on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, about 20km from the city.

One of the few good side-effects of the lockdown has been discovering old gems from TV, films, and music. Doordarshan has been releasing many of its famed TV shows on Prasar Bharti Archives. Including classics like Kashish, Trishna, Aarohan, Mitti Ke Rang, and Discovery of India. I discovered a vast treasure from the golden era of Doordarshan shows television.
