Finance Uncovered

Finance Uncovered is a not-for-profit UK company which trains journalists and activists around the world to "follow the money" and then works with media and campaign groups to publish and broadcast powerful stories. Founded in 2012 and a fully-fledged organisation since 2017, we have trained more than 1,000 people from over 90 countries and contributed to well over 150 hard hitting investigations, including the GuptaLeaks, DubaiLeaks, LuandaLeaks and the Pandora Papers. Our aim is to help strengthen public interest investigative journalists and the organisations they work for. We prioritise working with investigative centres and activists in kleptocracies and countries where Follow the Money journalism is hard to do. Through classroom-based and online training, we help give journalists and activists the confidence to use financial skills in their investigations and stories on all kinds of topics – not just corruption and business stories, but also human and labour rights, procurement and climate change. There is a multiplier effect in what we do. But we are more than trainers. We train, mentor, support and investigate. In fact, we consider ourselves a Follow the Money Editorial Services organisation. And we always try to make sure that good straightforward storytelling is at the heart of what we do. We are proud to work closely with brave and pioneering investigative centres around the world, including Africa Uncensored and The Elephant in Kenya, Premium Times in Nigeria, MakanDay in Zambia, Myanmar Now in Myanmar, the Centre for Investigative Journalism in Nepal and Prothom Alo and the Daily Star in Bangladesh. We are also a member of the Global Investigative Journalism Network, we are an Organized Crime & Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) partner, and we work closely with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
