For one, it's basically invisible-most people don't know unless I disclose it. I have a slight speech impediment but it probably reads as a quirk rather than a result of not being able to hear. Secondly, because it's invisible, it doesn't jump out at people every time they interact with me, so they forget.
By Soph Warnes Verified| Medium@ Thanks to needing a hip replacement earlier in the year, I found myself in a position where I reached my out-of-pocket max (no more paying for healthcare!) and so I was kind of looking for things to 'fix' this year. I went home in August and I was talking about deafness with my dad who recently got hearing aids. He is absolutely delighted with them because not only do they help him, but it's all tied to his phone, and a little box under the TV, and he gets to play with an app.
