Biography
Sophie is currently an associate editor at the Queens Chronicle, covering north and northeastern Queens. Previously, she was intern at Publishers Marketplace, an online publication dedicated to keeping the publishing industry up to date on the latest deals, book reviews and more. She graduated cum laude from Kenyon College in May 2021 with a degree in American studies and a concentration in African Diaspora studies. In her work as the Managing Editor (and previously, Features Editor) of the Kenyon Collegian and as a podcast producer, she continues to pursue the passions she examines in her school work: the widespread inequities in American institutions, particularly within educational and political institutions. For her senior thesis, she wrote, produced, edited and hosted her podcast, LEARNING WHAT HAPPENED, in which she analyzes collegiate newspaper coverage of the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas conflict, specifically at all women's colleges and HBCUs. In addition to analyzing these papers, she conducted an oral history for the podcast, gathering interviews from people who were students at the six colleges she has chosen (Smith, Mount Holyoke, Barnard, Howard, Spelman and Morehouse) during the fall of 1991.
