Pritchard|SAGE PublishingSuicide is multifactorially influenced by both direct (e.g., suicidal ideation; previous attempts) and indirect suicide-related (e.g., hopelessness) factors, which is best understood through intersecting psychological (Gili et al., 2019; Goldston et al., 2009), biological (Ruderfer et al., 2020), and psychosocial (Cero et al., 2015; Van Orden et al., 2010) influences. Indeed, about 50% of people who die by suicide had a previously diagnosed psychological disorder (Stone et al., 2018).
