  • QUABINA - Sterling Media

By Sterling Giles| sterlingmediadmv.com@ SM: Yeah, that’s real. So being from Ghana and having African parents, as you got older how did they foster your creativity? Q: When I was little, my dad bought me a piano and a guitar, but I never learned how to play. My mom would invite my teacher who was an artist to come over to teach me how to draw certain things. They really did help me, little by little even though music wasn't really what I was focused on at that time. I was still fueling the creative aspects of me.

He faced his fair share of jabs from his peers because they couldn’t quite put their finger on who and what Noah-O was. So he leaned in and proudly wore his Filipino heritage on his chest.

  • BAVA, Peter $un & Bradford Thomas: Yo! Hip Hop RVA

By Sterling Giles| RVA Verified This week’s edition of YO! HIP HOP RVA is eclectic: BAVA perfectly balances soul and trap on “Me vs BAVA.” Peter $un’s “MY FAVORITE DRUG” remixes have unique grooves all music lovers will enjoy, and Bradford Thomas’ LP is an enigmatic amalgamation of Black music. Are you an artist with new tracks, a listener with suggestions or the inside scoop, or just want to say hi? Send an email to sterling@rvamag.com. “Me vs BAVA” takes me back to watching hip-hop music videos on BET’s 106 & Park.
