Steve Cook is co-publisher and managing editor of Real Estate Economy Watch, which was recognized as one of the two best real estate news sites of 2011 by the National Association of Real Estate Editors. He also writes for The Niche Report, the Equifax personal finance site, Bigger Pockets, a site serving real estate investors, Total Mortgage Services, UPI Real Estate and Scotsman Guide, a magazine for mortgage professionals. Before he co-founded REEW in 2007, he was vice president of public affairs for the National Association of Realtors and directed strategic communications for the largest trade association in the nation for nearly a decade. He often served as a spokesman for NAR and represented the association on several national coalitions. He also organized and managed the national HOPE Awards, honoring outstanding contributions to minority homeownership. In 2006 and 2007, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in real estate. During his 30 years in public affairs, Cook has been a broadcast news correspondent, served two Members of Congress as press secretary and was a senior executive at the world's largest independent public relations firm in Washington and Chicago. He has served on the Speaker’s Committee of the National Press Club and his public relations programs have received the highest award in the public relations field four times. He’s a graduate of the University of Chicago where he was editor of the Chicago Maroon.
