Steve Herman is chief national correspondent for the Voice of Herman. Previously, Steve was VOA's White House Bureau Chief during the Trump administration and for the start of the Biden administration. The veteran journalist spent 26 years in Asia, including reporting from Tokyo and subsequently as a VOA correspondent and bureau chief in India, Korea and Thailand. He also served as VOA's Senior Diplomatic Correspondent, based out of the State Department in the latter half of 2016. Steve's articles, columns and reviews have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines including the Far Eastern Economic Review, Harvard Summer Review, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Japan Quarterly, Japan Times, Popular Communications, Proceedings (U.S. Naval Institute), Radio World, Shukan Bunshun, Shukan Gendai, South China Morning Post and the Wall Street Journal. He has appeared on ABC World News Weekend, Arirang TV, BBC, Buckmaster Show (KVOI Tucson), the CBS Evening News, Channels TV (Nigeria), CNN, Fox News, Radio New Zealand and various cable news networks in India. Steve was elected for five consecutive years to serve as Chairman of The Foreign Press in Japan (FPIJ) after completing a one-year term as President of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan (FCCJ). He also served a one-year term as President of the Seoul Foreign Correspondents' Club and was a Governor of the Overseas Press Club of America. Steve is the representative for foreign service officers of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) on the board of governors of the American Foreign Service Association. His latest book, "Behind the White House Curtain: A Senior Journalist’s Story of Covering the President — and Why It Matters," will be published by Kent State University Press in 2024.
