Biography

I'm a journalism major with a great eye for detail and a penchant for getting to the bottom of a story. I'm a strong interviewer, partially because I like talking to people, partially because I'm willing to get a little knowledge about a subject ahead of time - so I know what to ask. I also enjoy data diving to find a story. I've spent quite a few nights sifting through PDFs and data dashboards. Just give me coffee. I'm also adept with multi-media projects. Radio, broadcast, podcast - and the ability to edit all, mostly with Adobe. I also have some editor experience. More copy-editing than editing, but I also spent two semesters at LBCC as a managing editor and then the editor-in-chief.

  • How the murder of Matthew Shepard taught me to fight hate

By Steven Matthews Verified| Long Beach Current Verified Matthew Shepard is a person I think about from time to time, perhaps more so lately. He was a political science major at the University of Wyoming in Laramie and he had a loving family he was close to. He was also murdered in 1998 for being gay. I grew up in a situation where I didn’t know the struggles of oppressed individuals. Not by choice, but for someone like me to learn these things, I had to be taught it or I had to see it.

  • A Night Out in Historic Long Beach — DIG MAG

By Steven Matthews Verified| DIG MAG Verified The restaurant boasts both indoor and outdoor seating and according to their website, their current menu presents a union of “New American cuisine with southern traditions.”Despite the active neighborhood, you’ll find that the Attic features a laid-back and tempered vibe. The lighting as you dine presents the right ambience to create the perfect subtle climb in anticipation for the rest of the night. The next stop – the dessert stop – isn’t going to be a surprise to many CSULB students.
