Biography
I are a writer. I have been reviewing, researching, ranting and writing about consumer gadgets and technology for more than 30 years (yeah, I can't believe it's been that long, either). Over the years I've written for nearly every major consumer, niche and trade outlet. These days, I toil primarily for Mashable (reviews and the odd feature), DVICE (a weekly bloviation), Laptop, Techlicious, Ubergizmo, TWICE and varying and sundry others. I also do an annual update to a now 50,000-word industry history and Hall of Fame bios for the Consumer Electronics Association, for which I also am a Hall of Fame judge. Between the current winter show and old summer shows in Chicago, I've attended more than 40 CESs. I have written what are considered to be the definitive pieces on the invention of videotape recording (for which I got to interview Ray Dolby for 90 minutes) and the cellphone for the late, lamented American Heritage of Invention & Technology magazine. I was also a co-founder or E-Town, which competed with CNET in the late 1990s, before it blew up in the Web bubble in early 2001. Aside from tech, in former lives I was also a sports writer (my book "Bums No More: The Championship Season of the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers" was the lead book review in the spring of 1995 in The New York Times), a poker writer (my book "The Rules of Neighborhood Poker sold more than 150,000 copies) and film historian (I wrote host intro and outros for AMC when it was a poorer version of Turner Classic Movies).
