Biography

Sunday Dutro was born and raised in San Diego, California. She kept a journal from the age of ten and still has all but one from her teenage years. An avid reader, library supporter, and entrepreneur; she had a book, a pen, and a business idea with her at all times. Dutro attended college at the University of California, Davis, where she edited her department newsletter, ran a weekly Poetry Slam, and occasionally wrote an article for the school paper. She actively made all the wrong choices and did all the wrong things but somehow managed to graduate with a BA before absconding to Europe. In Barcelona, Spain, Dutro earned her Certificate in English Language Teaching from the International House before backpacking across the continent solo. With the exception of a stomach bug between Turkey and Romania, it was a formative part of her life and an option she wishes everyone could take. Upon returning to the States, Dutro ended up in Finance for a decade before following her heart to the mountains where she met the Sweet Love of her life, had two miscarriages and two live births, and found her passion for small town living among the pines. Sunday Dutro is an internationally published writer, UCDavis, Writing By Writers Manuscript-Boot-Camp, and Haven I Writing Retreat alum. Dutro is an Emerging Writer Member of The Author’s Guild, a member of Authors of the Flathead, and AWP. A Montana Arts Council MAP Certified Artist, she lives in Montana with her husband, children, dogs, cats, and chickens, where she writes for her local paper. Sunday is actively working on a memoir. Find her writing in and forthcoming in Bear Paw Arts Journal, Panorama, Drexel’s Paper Dragon, UC Davis #aggiesinlove, Vine Leaves Press, BarBar, True Magazine, GreenPrints, Lunaris Review, and The Sanders County Ledger. • Sunday's Snapshots: Resistance

By Sunday Dutro Verified| Sanders County Ledger Verified As a kid spending summers with family in Arkansas, I was tasked, along with my cousins, in the keeping of the chicken houses. Every morning, afternoon, and evening, we’d fight over who had to take which of the three aisles and then we’d wave our arms forward and back, shooing the chickens before us one slow step at a time, our eyes on the floor, looking for the chickens that didn’t move.

  • Whatcha Readin'? Icthing to get outside

By Sunday Dutro Verified| Sanders County Ledger Verified Dear fellow itchy gardeners, it’s still not time! I promise. There is snow on the heart of Silcox, there are freezes in the forecast; while you can get to work on starts, you will have to consume your hands and minds with other tasks for just a while longer unless you have a way to successfully protect your young seedlings. May I suggest reading some books to take your mind off planting, and to calm your hands? In March I read 15 books, eight of which were four stars or better.
