Biography
I learned everything I know about self-promotion as a tyke from Dr. Hook's Cover of the Rolling Stone. I am an attorney licensed to practice in the state of Maryland since 1993: my favorite cases to take were criminal defense, when I was actively a trial attorney. I am also a journalist. I currently write for Newsmax.com. My column is: "Right Where You Want to Be". I also cover national and international issues for the Platinum section. I've written for USA TODAY10Best: their Baltimore Expert. I contribute to San Diego Reader (travel pieces) and have my own blog at www.TamarMarcoPoloStyle.com. I served as Associate Editor at GI Money magazine, crafting articles of interest to our service members and vets. I have an eclectic background: I was a professional violinist and the youngest girl to solo with the Chicago Symphony. I studied with Daniel Heifetz at the Peabody Conservatory of Music/The Johns Hopkins University. I was Principal 2’d of Annapolis Symphony and Concertmistress of Annapolis Theater Orchestra. I was also Principal 2’d of Civic Orchestra of Chicago (the training orchestra of Chicago Symphony Orchestra). All of this was before I turned 19. I have appeared on national television: CNN with Greta Van Susteren, “Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher”, “The Howard Stern Show”, "W. 57th" and “Dr. Phil”. I have worked on several political campaigns from the city to Congressional to Presidential levels. I lived and breathed the 3rd Dist. of New Hampshire, working for congressional candidate Scott Williams. He lost to Bob Smith... and while handing out pamphlets for Williams, I was stung by a bunch of bees on my 21st birthday! From the bee stings, I passed out, cracked my head open on a rock, and John Sununu (Sr.) got angry because I was getting more attention than he was at this political shindig. I worked on Presidential primaries in both D.C. and New Hampshire. I was a Senate Intern on Capitol Hill for Sen. Paul Simon (D. Ill). I made it through a month of Air Force Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, not being the sporty type. I have won several national and local beauty pageants, as well as serving as a pageant judge all around the nation. I've been the beauty queen in several parades. For many years, I assisted my dad in his furniture display-rental business at ABA/Book Expo at McCormick Place in Chicago: unloading furniture off our trucks, refinishing furniture, meeting with prestigious clients such as Harvard University Press, Naval Academy Press, Daedelus Books, Johnson Publishing, and Cedco Calendars. I have developed and published recipes, been a restaurant critic, taken classes at Le Cordon Bleu and BBQ U, judged the International Water Tasting Fest at Berkeley Springs, and judged the Roadkill Festival -- eating groundhogs and, unbelievably, moose. Not entirely related -- I don't think -- I've participated in a chili cook-off in Canada. For 10 years, I was the booking agent/PR/management for several Southern rock and alt-country acts, including former Black Oak Arkansas/Krokus bass guitarist Andy Tanas. I still do private consultation for the most favorite of my clients and friends, but not the all-day, all-night slog-o-thon of chasing after venues and let's face it: many musicians are craaaaazy, as Axl Rose sings. Kentucky's Governor Paul Patton named me a Kentucky Colonel in 2003.
