Alf Hunter, from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, worked on more than 60 films including the first three films in the sci-fi franchise and the Indiana Jones series. The 90-year-old, who started working at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood in 1951, said he developed a reputation for his skills in set painting and was regularly requested by directors.

  • Struggling families in Bedford helped with festive food parcels

Bedford-based Faces has given out £50 fresh food parcels to 20 local families - and hundreds of Christmas presents. Chief executive Michaela Martindale said the charity had seen demand rise by more than 40% on last year. "It's so sad to see so many people who can't afford to feed their family, especially the week leading up to Christmas," she said.
