The fire started in a six-unit condo community near Island Cove Court around 12:26 p.m., according to Hampton Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum. When crews arrived to the two-alarm blaze, heavy smoke could be seen from the front of the building while heavy fire could be seen from the back.

Police say they were called to the 800 block of the street around 3:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, but by 4:39 p.m., he had succumbed to his injuries. Police say there is no suspect information at this time, but detectives and forensics are on the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
