The fire started in a six-unit condo community near Island Cove Court around 12:26 p.m., according to Hampton Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum. When crews arrived to the two-alarm blaze, heavy smoke could be seen from the front of the building while heavy fire could be seen from the back.

  • Man fatally shot on 35th Street in Newport News

    By Taylor Brokesh Verified| WVEC-TV (Norfolk, VA) Verified NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A man was shot and killed on 35th Street in Newport News on Friday. Police say they were called to the 800 block of the street around 3:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, but by 4:39 p.m., he had succumbed to his injuries. Police say there is no suspect information at this time, but detectives and forensics are on the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
