Justice of the Peace Janus Poppe announced during Paul Correa’s arraignment at the Bisbee Justice Court that he was recusing himself and the county's five justices of the peace due to the conflict posed by Correa’s job as the Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney.

Lopez IV of the Arizona Supreme Court will be in Bisbee on May 1 as the featured guest speaker of Cochise County’s annual Law Day event. Lopez will headline the event at Bisbee High School starting at 9 a.m. The event is open to the public but space is limited, according to Cochise County Court Administrator Niltza Flores.

Public records show private law firms have billed Cochise County more than $102,000 connected with the challenge to the May 2023 all-mail election which created a countywide one-half cent sales tax to fund the Cochise County Jail District.
