Evans defeated write-in candidate Tanya Roberts by eight votes, 165 to 157, Kinney said. There was a total of 170 write-in votes, with 157 of those for Roberts.

The crash occurred at 2:12 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Taylor Avenue. According to the initial crash report by Iowa State Patrol Trooper Zach Taylor, a 2009 Peterbilt semitrailer driven by Adam Wiese, 27, of Lowden, Iowa, was eastbound on U.S. 30. The semi struck the rear of a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 59-year-old Lowden man.
