“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all" is a quote from the playwright Oscar Wilde that reminds me to live a life that I am passionate about. My inclination to write started when I entered an essay writing contest in the ninth grade. I was assigned to write about a time I faced my fears. I'd never felt more exhilarated during that contest by simply writing what I felt. So I decided to hold on to that feeling and pursue a career in journalism. Telling my parents that I was going to college to pursue a career in writing was not an easy sell, but adversity has never been a deterrent for me. As a junior, I took the initiative to relaunch Southern University's EGO magazine after it had been out of print for two years. As Editor and Chief of EGO, I pulled from my experience as a staff writer for Digest Newspaper and intern work for Girls' Life Magazine to rebrand EGO and do something impactful for the school. I currently aspire to have a career at a thriving organization where I can create notable content. Impacting people and bringing about change that can affect their lives positively. I want to live and not just exist, using my gift as a writer to do so.
