  • How 90 days of cold showers, fasting and no TV changed my life

By Tim Boxer| Christianity Magazine Verified I have just endured 90 days without a hot shower or bath, which means cold showers from 17th January - 17th April - some of the coldest weeks in England. My first cold shower was just as bad, and worse, than I’d imagined. I’d asked a question in preparation - “how cold?” - and the answer came back - “so you are gasping”. I did as asked, and to show willing, I stayed in longer than needed to clean and rinse off (which when panicking, is possible in about 68 seconds).

  • Remembering Jerry Stiller

By Tim Boxer| The Times of Israel Verified Jerry Stiller, born in Brooklyn 1927 as Gerald Isaac Stiller, told me how hard it was to keep kosher. His father William, a taxi driver then a city bus driver, never made enough money to sustain the family. They moved 11 times the first 13 years of Jerry’s life. One day they moved from one end of the block to the other. “We worked our way down the economic ladder,” Jerry told me in an interview at Cheers restaurant in 1988.
