Police officials used a search warrant to gain permission this week to examine the phone of Jiale Yang, 23. Yang is charged with felony fraud of an elderly person and has been bound over for trial. Records show he's free after $30,000 bond was posted.

Joseph Balcarcel, 26, of Fitchburg had bail set Thursday at $50,000. In addition to armed carjacking, Balcarcel is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. A criminal complaint states the victim told officers he thought he was going to die as he found three masked, armed men at his jeep in the store parking lot on Commerce Drive.
