By Tricia Culligan Verified| Scholastic@ There’s a garden growing in science teacher Stephen Ritz’s classroom at Community School 55 in the Bronx, New York. That doesn’t mean Ritz has a few plants on the windowsill. More than 1,000 plants with fruits, vegetables, and herbs grow from 5-foot-tall towers that fill the room. Ritz’s classroom is the headquarters of the Green Bronx Machine, a program that teaches students how to plant, grow, and cook fresh vegetables.
