Leonard|Crain's Chicago BusinessVerifiedAround this time 11 years ago, I worked with several coalitions around Chicago to get a nonbinding referendum for an elected school board on the ballot in several city precincts. We got the measure on the ballot for the entire 24th Ward, and it passed by a margin of 89% to 11%. In some precincts, the referendum received 94% of the vote. To say that I am happy to see that state legislation was passed in 2021 to create an elected representative school board in Chicago is an understatement.
