Canadian Energy Centre

The Canadian Energy Centre (CEC), also known as the "Energy War Room," was established by the Government of Alberta on December 11, 2019. Its main goal was to promote Alberta's energy industry and counter campaigns against Canada's oil and gas sector. The CEC was headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and led by CEO Tom Olsen. Initially funded with an annual budget of CA$30 million, this was later reduced to CA$12 million. The CEC operated through three main units: the Rapid Response Unit, which addressed misinformation about Canadian oil and natural gas; the Pro-Active Energy Literacy Unit, which created content to improve public understanding of the energy sector; and the Data and Research Unit, which centralized and analyzed data for various stakeholders. The organization aimed to position Canada as a leading supplier of responsibly produced energy to meet global demand. The CEC was dissolved on June 11, 2024, and merged into Alberta Intergovernmental Relations.
