Biography
I'm a NYC-based journalist, screenwriter and Moth story slam winner. My writing on wild horse roundups, public lands ranching, and the underground horse meat trade can be found in Forbes, Counterpunch, Newsweek, HuffPo, AlterNet, Salon, Newsweek and the dailypitchfork.org, a web site that I founded with environmental historian James McWilliams and of which I am executive editor. The Daily Pitchfork fact-checks, reviews and publishes corrections requests to news organizations and reporters to improve accountability and public trust. My work on wild horses and public lands ranching has also been featured on westernwatersheds.org and has served as source material in two books (Christopher Ketcham’s “This Land” and Stephen Nash’s “Grand Canyon for Sale”); in Bioscience and Idaho Law Review; and in Pacific Standard (among other outlets). My screenplays include The Judas Horse (drama based on a true story published in Forbes ) and The Modern Christian Spinster’s Guide to Love in the Twenty-First Century, a semi-finalist in Screencraft's TV pilot competition and the Made-in-New-York Writers Room fellowship competition. Previously, I wrote food, tech, financial and lifestyle content for affluent media, including Forbes, The New York Times, Esquire, Dow Jones, Vogue and The New Yorker, among others. My work is best characterized by research, data, spare writing and strategic use of satire, especially in headlines. From Forbes "How Many Congressmen Does it Take to Screw a Horse?" Answer: three.
