The restaurant — inside a converted Subway — now bears the new name Michi Japanese Cuisine. Originally, Hagio was part of the team that created Napa’s popular Hal Yamashita establishment in downtown Napa. Despite strong local support, the COVID-19 pandemic proved insurmountable, and the restaurant closed in 2023.

The concept started when Sarah Hansen, the daughter of the Model owners, hosted an informal burger competition last summer. Everyone entered their burger, and Hansen and her husband, Chris, used the Model Bakery English Muffin as the bun. And the Model Bakery burger was born.
