Biography
Vivienne Chow is an award-winning journalist and critic specialising in arts, cinema, culture and cultural politics. She currently works as an independent writer and has contributed to a range of international media outlets including The New York Times, BBC Culture, Variety, Quartz, Artnet News, The Art Newspaper, Artsy and the South China Morning Post. She is the recipient of the IJP Premium Fellowship Award 2018 by the Internationale Journalisten-Programme in Germany, the first Hong Kong-based journalist to receive the honour. She also received the SOPA Awards 2020 honour for her achievements in arts and culture reporting. In addition to writing and reporting, Vivienne is currently working on her first artistic hybrid storytelling project "Since Ancient Times" with Oi! - Oil Street Art Space in Hong Kong. The mixed-media narrative project tells the untold story of her family originated from these forgotten deserted islands in the city. In 2014, Vivienne founded Cultural Journalism Campus, a non-profit educational outfit promoting arts and culture among young people and children through the practice of cultural journalism, art criticism and storytelling. Vivienne was the first Hong Kong journalist selected to take part in the inaugural Berlinale Talent Press, a fellowship dedicated to the training of young journalists and critics that has been running at the Berlin International Film Festival since 2004. Previously she was a staff reporter with the South China Morning Post for a total of 15 years covering arts and cultural affairs.
