Biography

South African poet and entrepreneur, Vus’umuzi Phakathi, is a writer, editor, performer, curator, publicist, and teacher. Phakathi is the recipient of Mail & Guardian Top 200 Youth, Destiny Man Magazine’s Power of 40, and the first Best Poetry Album award at the SABC’s 5th Annual Crown Gospel Music Awards. With a career spanning over 17 years, Phakathi is a freelance writer at Mail & Guardian, Sowetan, and SMag, he’s worked as an editor at Cultrure Review Magazine, and has edited two poetry collections. He was written and performed in four one-man poetry-in-performance production, two of which have tour South Africa and abroad. Phakathi the co-founder and Executive Director of Current State Presentations, the company behind the trailblazing Current State of Poetry, and PR Manager at Voiceboxes Ideas.
