Yaw Afrim Gyebi is a Ghanaian humanitarian documentary photographer committed to using visual storytelling as a catalyst for social change. Growing up in a broken home and an underserved community profoundly influenced his perspective and work. His compassionate approach to photography is driven by personal experiences and a dedication to societal and environmental issues, particularly those impacting women and children. Gyebi began his photography journey in 2019/2020 while living in a church mission house. Some of his projects include "Lost Faces of Humanity," which documents the neglected lives of senior citizens and mentally challenged individuals, and "Tears of the Kayayo," which sheds light on the socio-economic challenges facing female head porters in Ghana. His current project, "Bayakasoa: Unseen Lives, Unending Spirit," is a photojournalism initiative aimed at revealing the true essence of a community often misjudged as a hub of crime. Through this project, he challenges stereotypes and showcases the resilience, strength, and humanity of its residents. Through his lens, Gyebi seeks to inspire social change by challenging stereotypes, exposing injustices, and advocating for the empowerment of vulnerable populations.
