Correspondent with The Associated Press (AP). AWARDS: I won the AP's Beat of the Week award Feb. 13, 2014, with my colleagues Richard Lardner and Leon Keith for our report about the U.S. military justice system's handling of sexual assaults. I am part of the AP team covering the March 2011 tsunami disaster in northeastern Japan. Our coverage won the National Press Club breaking news-print category award, the APME award in breaking news and enterprise categories, the spot news award from Deadline Club in New York and the New York Press Club spot news award for newswires. I received the AP's Beat of the Week award with my colleague Justin Pritchard in June 2011 for exposing how unprepared the Japanese nuclear industry was for the tsunami. Outside journalism, my poem "No Gift of the Magi" was a finalist winner in the Cultural Weekly Poetry Contest, and it was published November 2013. A video by Adam Lewis of my reading the poem with bassist Hiroshi Tokieda in Okinawa was featured January 2014 in Cultural Weekly.
