Jaiden "J.R." Rodriguez, a former junior high student at The Vanguard School, and his mom, Eden Hope Rodriguez, in 2023 sued the school and school district over its policy over whether he can wear a Gadsden flag patch on his backpack.

  • Crash knocks out traffic signal in southeast Colorado Springs

    By Zachary Dupont Verified| The Gazette (Colorado Springs) Verified The Colorado Springs Police Department reported on Friday that the traffic lights at the intersection of Astrozon Boulevard and South Academy Boulevard were not functioning. According to the Police Department, an accident at the intersection on the city's southeast side resulted in the  outage at around 6 p.m. "As a result, north and southbound South Academy Boulevard is open to traffic, while east and westbound Astrozon is shut down," the Police Department blotter states.

  • Return to Nature owner Jon Hallford gets new sentencing date in state case

    By Zachary Dupont Verified| The Gazette (Colorado Springs) Verified Return to Nature owner Jon Hallford will be sentenced in August after his original sentencing date in state court was postponed. The funeral home in Penrose, about 35 miles southwest of Colorado Springs, came under a multi-agency investigation in October 2023 after complaints about a foul odor in the area. Investigators said they found nearly 190 bodies in various states of decomposition that were not properly stored.
