Our journalist and media-contact datasets are compiled from publicly available sources where outreach is permitted (e.g., official newsroom pages, public author bios, mastheads, professional profiles, newsroom submission pages).

We use verification steps (e.g., email/domain validation) and quality screening to help ensure accuracy and legitimacy.

We do not buy data from third-party brokers.

You can opt out, request deletion, or exercise your GDPR rights at any time (see “Your GDPR Rights” below).

What Personal Data We Collect

Account & Billing Data

• Name, email, password, and billing address
• Payment details are handled by our payment processor Stripe; we do not store full card numbers.

Service Usage Data

• Log data (IP, device/browser info, pages viewed, actions taken), security signals (e.g., failed logins), and feature usage necessary to operate and secure the service.
• Free plan usage data (e.g., number of journalist profiles viewed per month) to enforce monthly limits.

Communications

• Messages you send us (support tickets, chatbox), email preferences, and feedback.

Publicly Available Professional Data (Journalist Database)

• Name, professional email or role inbox where publicly listed, newsroom/outlet, beat, bio, links to authored articles, and other information published by the journalist or outlet for contact purposes.

• Functional and analytics cookies to operate and improve the site. See our Cookie Notice (or section below).

We do not intentionally collect special category data (e.g., health, religion) and we do not knowingly collect children’s data.

Lawful Bases for Processing (GDPR Art. 6)

We process personal data under one or more of the following bases:

• Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) – To create/manage your account, provide the service (including free and paid plans), process payments.
• Legitimate Interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) – To build and maintain a professional journalist directory from public sources; to prevent fraud/abuse; to secure and improve our services; to perform reasonable B2B outreach relevant to your role. We balance these interests against your rights and expectations.
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) – Where required (e.g., certain marketing communications). You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal Obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) – To meet tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements.

How We Use Personal Data

• Provide and personalize the service (account access, features, search).
• Enable access to free plan features (up to 5 journalist profile views per month, reset monthly, non-rollover).
• Verify and maintain the accuracy of public, professional contact information.
• Communicate service updates, security notices, and administrative messages.
• Provide support and respond to requests.
• Analyze usage to enhance performance, security, and reliability.
• Comply with applicable laws and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell personal data.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Pages may include embedded content (videos, images, articles, social widgets). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the third-party site directly, which may collect data and use cookies according to its own privacy notice.

Disclosures & Processors

We may share personal data with trusted service providers (e.g., hosting, payment processing, analytics, support tools) under written contracts and with appropriate safeguards. • Account data: for the life of the account and a reasonable period thereafter for legal/compliance (e.g., tax records).
• Logs/security data: typically short operational periods unless needed for incident investigation.
• Public journalist records: reviewed periodically; we remove or update on request or when data is no longer relevant/accurate to the stated purpose.
• Free plan accounts: may be retained while active. Inactive free accounts may be deleted periodically to minimize data.

When data is no longer needed, we delete or irreversibly anonymize it.

Security

We apply organizational and technical safeguards (access controls, encryption in transit and at rest where applicable, monitoring, and regular reviews). No method is 100% secure; we continuously improve our measures.

Comments & Spam Protection (If Enabled)

If site comments are enabled, we may collect the data shown in the comment form, the commenter’s IP address, and browser user-agent string to assist spam detection. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your GDPR Rights

Subject to conditions and exceptions in law, you have the right to:

Account Deletion & Data Removal

You can request account deletion and data removal at any time by emailing contact@journalisthunt.com or using the website chatbox. We will process your request in accordance with GDPR and applicable retention obligations (e.g., tax records).
